Meet Stella! She turned 5 in October and her human Mama passed away so we are helping her find her perfect forever home. She isa bout 15 pounds and we think she’s a Papillon mix. Her owner’s kids work full time jobs and made the tough but best decision to find her a forever home with someone who is home more to care for her. Stella has always been blind and has diabetes, but had to have her eyes removed due to glaucoma two years ago. It takes her 2-3 days to learn her surroundings, and she is very smart about getting around.
She is a cuddler- she really likes sitting on laps. She would probably do that all day if she could. She also loves her crate- and is a good sleeper there. She does wake up in the middle of the night when her blood sugar isn’t regulated- she will need someone who is comfortable checking her blood sugar and giving shots twice a day.
She has been diabetic for about a year and a half. She is not fully regulated because she doesn’t eat consistently. I usually have to coerce her into eating by breaking up a treat across her food.
She will benefit most from someone who has plenty of time to make sure she eats 12 hours apart. She also needs someone with a fenced in back yard- she loves to explore and detests a leash.
Now to the best stuff…she loves stuffed toys! She likes playing as much as she likes cuddling- she’s happy to have someone play tug of war with her, and gets along really well with other dogs.
When she hears a loved one walking by, she lifts up her back leg for tickles. She has a high tolerance for pain from her surgery- so the insulin injections don’t phase her at all. She’s very adaptable, and gets around like a dog who sees as long as she’s in a house she knows. She likes kisses on the forehead (from people she knows)… and gets VERY excited when her humans get home. You can tell she is grateful for whoever takes care of her- she is a handful, but worth it for someone who needs a companion they have time to take care of. She was very attached to her mom- a retiree who is looking for a good pup with some challenges will be ideal. Her family would also like to be able to visit her every now and then if possible- not often, just to say hi because she is loved- we just aren’t her perfect fit forever.
Stella is spayed, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped. Her adoption donation is only $250. To meet Stella please fill out an adoption application on www.maxxandme.org.
