Meet Mossimo! He is an approximately 7 year old, 45 pound maybe collie or sheltie mix. He needs a friendly, playful dog in his home to bond and wrestle with and fenced yard to enjoy. No cats or bunnies – he is wayyy too interested in animals like that. But he’s been lovely with big and small dogs and children.
Here is Mossimo’s story…
Last year, after Hurricane Dorian, we brought 15 dogs from the Bahamas. Some puppies, a bonded mother / son, a previously paralyzed dog, dogs that had been with Chella at her sanctuary for a long time and some newly rescued dogs. One of these fortunate dogs was our Mossimo.
Mossimo was by far in the worst shape physically. Just days before the hurricane devastated the island, Chella found him in the streets on death’s door. There’s no doubt he would have been unable to save himself from the catastrophic flooding and devastating weather that Hurricane Dorian rained down on them.
When Mossimo arrived in the states, he was a bag of bones. His eyes had no light in them. His X-rays were so dramatic the doctors weren’t sure where to start. I remember vividly them saying “this is either the most progressed case of heart worms I’ve ever seen or it’s cancer and it’s everywhere. We won’t know until we try something things. Either way I think this is a hospice case and we will do all we can to give him as long as we can but he’s gotta want to fight.”
Fast forward through COUNTLESS vet visits and medication changes. HEARTWORM TREATMENT, steroids, antibiotics, meds to help his skin, his lungs, his joints, his kidneys…. Mossimo wanted to live alright. He showed us that in his resilience.
Today, 12 months later, Mossimo is healthier than we ever dreamed possible. He plays. He chases squirrels and rabbits and his foster siblings. He cuddles with his dedicated foster family and LOVES his foster girls who have taken such splendid care of him this whole time. The only notable repercussion still present is a hacky cough that steroids help keep at bay.
Other than that, he’s alive and well and we are pleased to announce he’s on the hunt for a forever home!!! We hoped and prayed and dreamed of this day for him. There were certainly times we didn’t know if he would get there… but the love of a family willing to nurse him back to health, care for him as their own, and then let him find a family of his own is profound.
So, there you have it. This GORGEOUS older gentleman is now in the market for a family to love him forever.
Mossimo is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped. Adoption donation is $225.
