Scarlett is a beagle/treeing walker coonhound mix who is about 5-6 years old and weighs 36 pounds. She was a cruelty confiscation by Hernando County Animal Services. She spent her whole life living with other hounds in deplorable conditions in outdoor cages. She has been with us for about 7 months and finished her heartworm treatment and is now healthy, happy, and ready for a forever home of her own! Scarlett is shy at first then the sweetest, snuggly girl once she trusts you. She likes school-age children but would prefer a quiet adult home with a family that doesn’t work out of the house full time because she loves being around her people. She LOVES other dogs of all sizes (hounds are pack animals) and must have a confident, playful dog in her forever home to help her continue to gain confidence and play with her. She also must have a fenced in yard as she does not potty on leash and loves sunbathing and lizard chasing. She loves going for walks for exercise and exploring though. She does the classic beagle bay when happy. Scarlett had never been indoors so took some time to get used to the sounds and what was expected of her and now acts like a silly girl and her favorite spot is on the couch right next to her foster family. She loves belly rubs and getting love from her foster family. She is crate trained but has occasional accidents if given too much freedom in the house but is very good at staying near by her foster family. Scarlett is nervous around new people (zero aggression ever) but her foster mom hasn’t been able to get her around many because of the quarantine so her forever family will need to continue to socialize and be patient with her. If Scarlett sounds like the dog for you please fill out an application on www.maxxandme.org. Scarlett is spayed, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped. Her adoption donation is only $250.
