Meet sweet Jay.
This dog has been failed over and over and it’s wearing on his precious self. HIS SUPER SWEET SPIRIT remains but he’s guarded, hurt, he remembers being happy and being forsaken again and again…
Jay was the temperament tester at Walton County Animal Shelter. Meaning he was so even-keeled and nice to everyone they used him to see how other dogs reacted to a balanced, good boy. The strike against him was he was HW+. Jay’s adorable face and awesome demeanor got him adopted though! Within 30 days, they returned him. The reason: he was too big. Jay was an adult when adopted. He didn’t change size in 30 days… however, he now had a “return” on his record and regardless of the reasoning, this was strike two.
The shelter workers loved Jay so much, they reached out to us, worried that Jay wouldn’t get lucky enough to find a family before the unthinkable happened…
Jay came to us and was practically perfect. He was adopted quickly and all the pics and updates showed how very happy he was with his new fur brother. Six months later, completely unexpectedly, Jay was returned. Turns out he was continuously left alone with outside access and would get out … 1) that’s a horrible decision for ANY dog- access without supervision to the outside 2) he is a HoundDog this wandering behavior should 100% have been expected and anticipated… 3) Jay is so completely enamored with his people, we are 100% sure he was searching for his people….
After months of this, When Jay was returned, he arrived TERRIFIED. He hates being left so much, he refuses to come inside if he knows you’re leaving. He PANICS when left in a crate alone and wiggles like a cockroach out of the smallest openings.
In a home where someone is around all the time, Jay thrives. He LOVES playing with other dogs, he LOVES snuggling with them too. At night, he really enjoys sleeping cuddled up with his head in your pillow! Jay needs a family to commit to him for the rest of his life. He is young (2ish), medium sized (50 pounds), friendly with all dogs and all people (though intimidated at first by craziness and loud noises). Jay needs a COMMITMENT. He needs a FAMILY. He needs FOREVER LOVE.
