“A strong feeling of support or allegiance”
In one word, that sums up this dog.
Bethany is loyal – to her human, to her litter, to her household. Bethany was failed in the worst way: her humans were completely DISLOYAL to her. They moved and left her pregnant, alone, confined on their property to fend for herself. When ACO apprehended her, she was still being loyal to that place she had known as home. They had to put her on a Catchpole to secure her. Once in the shelter – alone, scared, VERY pregnant – Bethany gave birth to nine babies. Instantly loyal to them, she barked and warned the strangers she saw not to mess with them. So they left her alone and three died that first day. The next day, Bethany made her way to us with six healthy babies in tow. She was leery but allowed us to transport them, get them set up in a secure enclosure, and then we left her be.
Within 24 hours, Bethany was again loyal: to us. For a dog so close to being euthanized for being “growly” (again, an expression of her loyalty to her babies), we were in awe of how quickly she became loving, affectionate, and bonded. In the four weeks we have had this little family, these feelings have only grown. Bethany bonds very hard and very quickly. She takes cues from her person about who can be trusted and who is to be feared. She walks easily on leash and takes corrections perfectly; She’s 100% potty trained; Takes treats gently; Is crate trained (it’s more of an open pen/enclosure); is non-destructive; alerts you when she needs to go out – or when she just misses you and wants attention; she absolutely knows her name and basic commands like sit and off and no and “that’s not for you”. We can’t say enough how she’s an all around great, GREAT dog.
Living as a new mother in a house with other dogs, Bethany is protective of her space and brood from the others. While we think she would be a completely different personality away from her litter, and likely fine with other dogs, we also think Bethany would be great with being an only dog/spoiled princess with people LOYAL only to HER.
Bethany likes chasing birds and exploring the outdoors. She will need a securely fenced yard to enjoy her freedom and allow her space to roam about. She’s great with people she knows but leery of strangers – again, a lot of this is something that may not be so hot-button away from her puppies – a household on the quieter side would be best while she learns to let that anxiety go.
Bethany will be vetted and spayed very soon. We are on the hunt for the PERFECT family for this most loyal of dogs.
Bethany’s adoption donation is $350
