Our Frankie has certainly had fate pass him by. As a senior long-haired chihuahua, Frankie was picked up on the streets of Tampa. How this tiny guy was able to survive the elements and dangers is beyond us! Thank God he did! When the shelter contacted us asking for help with Frankie… he was called “Tinkerbell” and labeled a girl. It wasn’t until Frankie was ours that he was really SEEN for the first time. Continued heartbreak…
When Frankie first arrived, he was exhausted. Time as a street dog – dodging cars, avoiding other dangerous things like wild animals or loose dogs, fending for himself to eat and find a place to hide, PLUS the additional stress of shelter life had taken its toll on him. He slept the sleep of the dead for several days. Once we had a chance to look him over well, have him evaluated by our vet, and groom him up, we knew Frankie needed a MAJOR dental with a full mouth extraction to rid him of a painful infection. We started him on joint supplements, healthy food, and gave him a safe / quiet place to relax and sleep peacefully and since he’s had the chance to rest and recover, Frankie has really opened up.
Frankie is now ready to begin his search for a perfect, forever retirement home. He gets along fine with other dogs but doesn’t need them to be happy. He LOVES to warm his bones in the sun and enjoys leisurely outside time exploring so a yard (albeit with only monitored time outside) will be something he needs. Frankie is a relaxed old man. He likes to join you while you work, he will snuggle in a dog bed and be content beside you, and he is happy to share his opinion on the news, the weather, and any passersby he may notice should you ask. He’s a CHIHUAHUA after all!
